Being an RN for over 30 years has enabled me the flexibility to experience working with patients in many different facets of healthcare. I knew I had a calling to be a nurse when I had the opportunity to spend a great deal of time with residents in the skilled nursing facility that my father managed since I was 7 years old. I volunteered as a child growing up and then later was employed as an RN at that same facility. I was involved in the education department at the facility, specifically training CNAs, both in the classroom and on the job. As an educator it was imperative that I not only taught the necessary knowledge and skills to my students, but also to encourage them to demonstrate compassion, empathy, and sincerity in all encounters with their patients.
My father instilled a sense of work ethic in me that has never wavered during all my years as an RN. I expect the same from those that are around me. As the health care industry has grown and presented many challenges along the way, I still look at change as a positive thing. I believe that we as health care providers need to constantly be looking at ways to be better, not only within ourselves, but the industry as a whole.
Opening up my own home health agency in 2006 was a natural progression in my career. I found my niche after a couple of years and now only focus on home health aide services, companion, and homemaking services for individuals in our region through agencies such as the VA, county eligible programs, and medicaid waiver agencies. I hand pick my staff and make sure that they are continually monitored to ensure safe, effective, quality care is always delivered.
A typical client that we service may only need a home health aide to come help them get started for the day. An hour or two may be all that they need to thrive in their home. Another client may only need two hours of homemaking a week to make life easier for them. As you can imagine, the caregivers are seeing several clients per day and touching the lives of so many. It is very rewarding but also requires a great deal of commitment.
Champion has no minimum hour requirement and no obligation to continue services on a regular basis. The client is and should be in charge of their plan of care at all times. The client expects the highest quality service by a competent and compassionate caregiver. That is what I will continually strive to do as the owner of Champion Home Health Care.
I became a member of the Administrative Team for Champion Home Health Care in May 2021. I have previous experience in customer services. While working with another agency, I felt a passion to help people who need care, and I am thankful to now work with Champion in my compacity because it allows me to learn the ins and outs of home care along with hands on service to those in the community. I am a lifelong resident of Alachua County. Proud first-time mom to a beautiful baby girl and learning how to balance work and home so that nothing gets neglected is a challenge, but one I’m willing to take. I have learned so much while working with Sherri and other Admin staff that I know my future is very bright in healthcare.

I have been working with Champion Home Health Care for over 10 years. I started as a CNA and gradually worked my way into an administrative position. I have a long back ground in customer service. While working with the public on a daily basis I found that I had a strong desire to help them in ways that would better meet their needs, so I decided to pursue a career in the medical field. I secured a job with Champion as a CNA and started working with people of all types helping them with things they were no longer able to do on their own and found that it was exactly what I was looking for. I had the opportunity to meet and make bonds with clients that was very fulfilling and can never be replaced. I enjoy working with other up and coming CNA’s in order to help them gain the experience and knowledge required to be successful in the Home Health field.
